Performance

You can find Haijin Choi's performances from the Grand Rapids Symphony, the Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck in summer, the Sunday Classical Concert Series for the Grand Rapids Art Museum, a bi-annual house concert and private events. She has orchestrated a chamber music series at Fredrik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park beginning in the summer of 2020.

Education

“I believe music is a form of language through which we can express ourselves. Reading music is like reading a piece of literature. From there, we learn the meaning of the piece and express what and how we feel through playing instruments or singing.

For beginners, my goal is teaching proper setup and building solid foundation in rhythm, listening, and reading. Beyond reading music alone, I always invite the student to understand musical phrasing.

For intermediate and advanced students, I guide them to imagine the music they want to play. Scales and etudes are necessary to make that happen. In the process, students will be encouraged to think critically for themselves.

Perfection is not our goal, but aiming for perfection and learning from the missteps along the way is.”
